Lighting your house is no minor expense, and makes up about 10% of your electric bill. It’s an easy place to start to begin saving money each month. Updated lighting standards were introduced in 2012 bringing new lines of bulbs that use 75% less energy compared to the traditional incandescents. These new halogen, CFL, and LED bulbs provide a range of color choices and brightness levels that also last 10-25x longer than their predecessors. Energy saving bulbs have the same dimensions as every bulb you’ve used in the past, so they will easily replace the old ones saving each household around $50 per year.
